FAQ
Is the Mauritius resort data accurate?
The coast, transfer method and minimum child age for each resort are checked against resort sites and mainstream travel media. Price ranges and the 0–100 scores are editorial estimates still being reviewed, so treat them as directional rather than exact quotes. If something looks clearly wrong, tell us through the feedback link in the footer.
Why only recommend 3–5 resorts?
The hard part of choosing is not too few options but too many that look alike. The tool filters by hard constraints first, then takes the best few matches and explains why each fits and what to weigh, so you can decide in minutes instead of reading dozens of posts.
Can I browse without answering the questions?
Yes. The Browse page lists every resort we cover and lets you filter by coast, budget and experience. Once you have answered the questions, the list is ordered by your match and flags issues such as over budget.
Can I save results or change my answers and re-match?
Yes. Every question can be changed in place on the results page and the match recalculates at once, with no need to go back and redo the quiz. Tap the heart on a resort to save it to the Saved page; your answers are also kept locally so they are there next time. All of this lives in the current browser and is lost if you switch device or clear it, so keep your own copy of anything important.
Can I book on this site?
No. This site only does matching and information; it does not handle booking or payment. Once you have a direction, book yourself through the resort site or an OTA.
What do the displayed prices include?
Prices are estimated nightly room-rate ranges in low and high season and exclude flights, taxes, meal plans and water activities. Mauritius uses the Mauritian rupee (MUR), but most resorts quote in euros or US dollars and add local taxes and service charges at checkout, so confirm when booking.
How much does a trip to Mauritius cost per person?
There is no single number, but you can break it down: return flights (most origins connect, and peak season costs more) + airport transfer (by road, per car or per person) + rooms (a mid-range beach resort versus a luxury villa resort differ hugely) + food (BB versus AI makes a big difference) + activities. The “nightly budget” in the quiz covers the room only, so remember to add flights, transfers, food and activities when planning a total.
Is all-inclusive common in Mauritius?
Fairly common, but not universal: many beach resorts default to half board or offer all-inclusive as an option, and areas with many restaurants such as Grand Baie lean towards breakfast only. See “Choosing a meal plan” for how to pick.
When is the best time to visit Mauritius?
Mauritius is in the southern hemisphere: November–April is hot, humid summer with the most rain in January–March and the cyclone season; May–October is cooler, drier winter with steady southeast trades, breezier and rougher on the east and south and calmer on the west and north. April–May and October–November are usually the best balance of weather and price. July–August, October and Christmas/New Year are the price peaks. Le Morne is best for kite and windsurfing from about June to September. See “Weather & seasons” for month-by-month detail.
How do I choose between the northwest, east, Le Morne, south and west coasts?
The north and northwest have the most restaurants, nightlife and calm lagoons (Grand Baie and around); the east has the longest beaches and quieter luxury resorts but is windier in winter; Le Morne has a spectacular mountain and lagoon and is the kitesurfing centre; the south is wild, scenic and quiet, with fewer swimming beaches; the west is sunny and dry with dolphin trips, and is the calmest in winter. See the “Coast guide” for each one.
Does Mauritius have overwater bungalows?
Almost none. Unlike the Maldives and Tahiti, Mauritius resorts are built on beaches and in lagoons, with beachfront rooms, garden villas and private-pool villas. Whether a given resort has any overwater-style rooms is on its own profile page.
What should I watch for with children?
Check the hard limits first: some honeymoon-oriented and adults-only resorts have minimum ages for children, and when you pick your child’s age band in the quiz these are filtered out or flagged. Then the soft factors: whether there is a kids club and whether the beach and lagoon are calm and shallow. Because every resort is reachable by road, transfers are easy for small children. Boat and snorkelling activities often have age or height limits — ask the hotel before signing up.
What should I know about visas and entry?
Entry requirements depend on your nationality: some passports are visa-free or get a stay on arrival, others need a visa or advance approval. Rules, fees and length of stay can change, so check the latest official information (the Passport and Immigration Office or the tourism authority) before you go.
Currency, connectivity, plugs: what to prepare?
Currency: the Mauritian rupee (MUR), though resorts often quote in euros or dollars and generally accept Visa / Mastercard; ATMs are common in towns and beach areas. Connectivity: resorts have Wi-Fi and mobile coverage is good; tourist SIMs / eSIMs are sold at the airport. Plugs: British Type G, with some Type C, 230V — bring an adapter. Language: English is official, French and Mauritian Creole are widely spoken, and English works fine at resorts.
What special arrangements can a honeymoon get?
Mauritius is a popular honeymoon and proposal destination, and many resorts offer beach candlelit dinners, couples’ spa and combinations such as two coasts in one trip, some of them paid extras. See “Honeymoons & proposals” for the fuller list of add-ons.
