Taha’a

The vanilla island, sharing a lagoon with Raiatea — quiet and remote

Taha’a and Raiatea sit inside the same reef, and Taha’a is known for vanilla farms and pearl farming with almost no large-scale development. Both resorts we list are on private outer motu, built around quiet and privacy — a common choice for honeymooners avoiding the Bora Bora crowds.

Access
Air Tahiti from Faa’a takes about 45 minutes to Raiatea airport, then a 20–35 minute resort boat to the outer motu of Taha’a — one of the longest transfers among the Tahiti resorts we list.
Best for
Honeymoons / anniversaries · Quiet and privacy · Snorkelling (the Coral Garden)
Watch out
  • · Long transfer — you often can’t connect on the day you land in Tahiti and need a night in Papeete
  • · On the motu there is almost nowhere to eat apart from the resort
  • · Not ideal for elders who struggle with long transfers

Who it suits

People who want a Bora Bora-grade lagoon and overwater villa without Bora Bora’s crowds or price curve. The pace is slower here: vanilla plantations, pearl farms, paddling, and doing nothing on a motu.

How the two resorts differ

Le Taha’a by Pearl Resorts on Motu Tautau is a Relais & Châteaux member, right next to the famous Coral Garden drift snorkel, with overwater villas looking towards Bora Bora; Vahine Island is a small private-motu resort with only a handful of rooms — more private, with correspondingly fewer facilities and activities.

Snorkelling and activities

The Coral Garden between two motu is one of the best-known snorkel spots in the Society Islands: you drift with the current down a shallow coral channel packed with fish. On the island you can join half-day tours to vanilla farms, pearl farms and a rum distillery.

Watch out for

Two-leg transfers (domestic flight plus boat) and international arrival times mean many itineraries need an overnight in Papeete. Combining with Bora Bora means another flight between the islands via Raiatea.
