FAQ
Is the Fiji data accurate?
The island group, transfer method and minimum child age fields are checked against official resort sites and mainstream travel media. Price ranges and the 0–100 scores are editorial estimates still being manually calibrated — treat them as directional, not exact quotes. If something looks clearly wrong, use the feedback link in the footer to tell us.
Why only 3–5 recommendations?
The hard part of picking an island isn't too few options — it's too many that all look the same. The tool filters on your hard constraints first, then surfaces the highest-matching few with a specific reason each fits and what to watch for, so you can decide in minutes instead of reading dozens of posts.
Can I browse without answering the quiz?
Yes. The Discover page lists every resort we cover, filterable by island group, budget, transfer method and experience dimensions. Once you've answered the quiz, the same list re-sorts by your match score and flags things to watch, like being over budget or lacking an overwater villa.
Can I save results, or change my answers and re-match?
Yes. Every question on the results page can be edited in place, and the match recalculates instantly — no need to go back and redo the quiz. Tap the heart on any resort to add it to Saved; your answers are also remembered locally, so they're still there next time. All of this lives in your current browser — switching devices or clearing your cache will lose it, so save anything important yourself.
Can I book a room through this site?
No. This site only does matching and information — no booking or payment. Once you've picked a direction, book directly through the resort's official site or an OTA.
What's included in the displayed price?
It's an estimated per-night room-rate range, split into low/high season, excluding flights, taxes, meal plans and water activities. Fiji's local currency is the Fijian Dollar (FJD); most resorts quote in USD or AUD. Your final bill will usually add VAT (often already built into the quoted rate) and a service charge — worth confirming when you book.
Roughly how much does a Fiji trip cost per person?
Hard to give one number — better to break it down: round-trip flights (economy usually $850–1,700+, more in peak season) + inter-island transfer (catamaran, seaplane or domestic flight, roughly $100–700 round trip depending on how far you're going) + room rate (Mamanuca/Yasawa mid-range resorts run $200–600/night; ultra-luxury private islands run $1,500–3,000+/night) + activities (snorkelling trips, shark diving, etc., tens to a few hundred dollars). Rough math puts a 4–6 night trip at roughly $2,100–4,900 per person, with private-island/all-inclusive routes having essentially no ceiling. The "budget per night" you pick in the quiz only covers the room rate — remember to factor in flights, transfers and activities for your total budget.
Is all-inclusive common in Fiji?
More common than in the Maldives, especially at private-island resorts (Turtle Island, Kokomo, Wakaya), which mostly default to all-inclusive covering most meals and activities. Coral Coast/Denarau chain hotels lean more toward half-board (HB) or breakfast-only (BB) as the default, with a full-board upgrade available as a paid package. See "Choosing a meal plan" for details.
When's the best time to visit Fiji?
Fiji has a Southern Hemisphere tropical climate. May–October is the dry season, with SE trade winds bringing cooler, drier weather — the main tourist season. November–April is the wet season and cyclone season (risk peaks January–March), hotter and more humid but with friendlier prices and fewer crowds. For a balance of weather and value, May, June, September and October are usually the sweet spot. See "Weather & seasons" for month-by-month detail.
How do I choose between Mamanuca, Yasawa and the other island groups?
Denarau (drivable direct) and the Coral Coast (45–75 min by road) are the closest and most hassle-free to Nadi Airport; Mamanuca is 20–90 minutes by boat and the most resort-dense middle ground, good for both families and honeymoons; Yasawa is further and quieter, suiting honeymooners who aren't in a rush and want real seclusion; Kadavu, Vanua Levu and Lomaiviti are niche picks for diving or ultimate privacy, with the longest transfers. See "Island group guide" for how each area is positioned.
Does Fiji have overwater bungalows?
Rarely. Unlike the Maldives or Tahiti, the vast majority of Fiji resorts use land-based or beachfront villas — of the resorts covered here, only Likuliku Lagoon Resort has genuine overwater thatched bures. Going to Fiji specifically for the overwater-villa look will likely disappoint, but land villas commonly come with a private plunge pool, and beach position plus reef quality are what actually differentiate Fiji resorts from each other.
What should I know about travelling with kids?
Check the hard constraints first: several private-island or honeymoon-focused resorts (like Likuliku Lagoon Resort) have a minimum child age, and the quiz will automatically filter or flag these once you enter your kids' ages. Then the softer factors: is there a kids club, and is the inter-island transfer (catamaran/seaplane) too much for young children. Coral Coast/Denarau chain resorts usually have the most mature family facilities. Boat trips and snorkelling activities often have age or height minimums — check with the resort before booking.
What should I know about visas and entry?
Fiji has one of the most open visa policies in the South Pacific — nearly all nationalities get the same visa-free entry for tourism, up to 4 months. Rules do change, so check Fiji Immigration or the official tourism board for the latest before you go.
Currency, Wi-Fi, plugs — what should I prep before arriving?
Currency: the local currency is the Fijian Dollar (FJD), free-floating; resorts widely accept Visa/Mastercard, but carry some small-denomination cash for local purchases. Wi-Fi: reliable around Nadi/Denarau, noticeably slower and less consistent at outer-island resorts; tourist SIMs/eSIMs from local carriers are available at the airport. Plugs: Australian-style Type I (angled three-pin), 240V — bring an adapter. Language: Fijian, Hindi and English are all widely spoken; resorts communicate fine in English.
For a honeymoon, what special touches do resorts offer?
Fiji is one of the world's well-known honeymoon and proposal destinations. Many private-island resorts offer a traditional kava ceremony, village visits, and private sandbank picnics as customisable add-ons, some at extra cost. See "Honeymoon & proposals" for the fuller list.
