Dhaalu Atoll
Its own domestic airport, from an all-inclusive activity island to peak-luxury seclusion
Dhaalu is south of South Malé and southeast of Ari, developed through the 2010s, with wide gaps between islands and a low visitor density. Because it has its own domestic airport, you can still reach the island via a domestic flight + speedboat in bad weather. The islands covered here span a wide range: at one end the St. Regis Vommuli with all-private-pool villas and St. Regis butlers - peak-luxury seclusion; at the other Kandima, a very long, activity-packed all-inclusive island; in between are Niyama's two-island design, Sun Siyam Vilu Reef's value family all-inclusive, Baglioni's Italian all-inclusive, Angsana Velavaru's signature In-Ocean "free-standing water villas in the middle of the lagoon", and Sun Siyam Iru Veli's all-pool villas plus a resident dolphin channel.

- · Dhaalu is not a top-tier snorkelling area - the house reef is usually a boat ride away (Angsana's In-Ocean and Sun Siyam Iru Veli have somewhat better reef)
- · The islands are very different from one another - do not book on the atoll name alone
Choosing
For peak-luxury seclusion, the St. Regis Vommuli (77 all-private-pool villas, the whale-shaped Whale Bar, multilingual butlers, dining widely called one of the world's most expensive St. Regis). For an active all-inclusive, Kandima (about 3 km long, a karting track / bowling / an art studio / one of the longest pools in the Maldives, low-season value). For a two-island design, Niyama; for a value family all-inclusive, Sun Siyam Vilu Reef; for an Italian all-inclusive, Baglioni. For a free-standing "nothing but sea" water villa, Angsana Velavaru's In-Ocean (a way from the main island, built in the middle of the lagoon). For an all-pool villa plus dolphins, Sun Siyam Iru Veli (the Dolphin Ocean Villas sit on a resident dolphin channel, a Premium all-inclusive).
Transfer and snorkelling
Dhaalu has its own Kudahuvadhoo domestic airport, so it is ~40 min by seaplane, or ~30 min by domestic flight + speedboat - late-arriving flights can still reach the island the same day, and the domestic route is steadier in bad weather. Dhaalu is not a whale-shark zone like Ari / South Ari, and the house reef is average, so if snorkelling comes first, Ari is the better fit.
