South Malé Atoll
Speedboat-reachable, quieter than the north atoll, generally good house reefs
Like North Malé it runs on speedboats, but the mood is more relaxed overall. Several islands here are known for a complete house reef you can snorkel straight off the beach. The price range is wide: long-established budget islands at a few hundred dollars a night, and a private-island villa peak at Waldorf Astoria Ithaafushi.

Who it suits
People who want the convenience of a speedboat without North Malé’s density. Families whose top priority is "step out and snorkel" should look hard at the house reefs of a few South Malé islands.
Price tiers
Older islands like Embudu and Fihalhohi are budget-friendly, good for putting the money toward diving or more nights; Adaaran Prestige Vadoo is the "value water villa plus a 15-minute speedboat" adults island (18+ since 2023), and Anantara Veli (18+) and Naladhu (a secluded private island of 20 houses) share a large lagoon and link with Anantara Dhigu as a three-island group; COMO Cocoa Island is the refined middle choice; OZEN RESERVE Bolifushi is the ultra-luxury family island of slide water villas plus a RESERVE all-inclusive (polarising, nicknamed "a divisive island"); Waldorf Astoria Ithaafushi is the ceiling here — a 30-minute speedboat away yet almost cut off from the outside world.
